WaterAid Bangladesh begins 40th anniversary celebration
WaterAid Bangladesh has launched its 40th anniversary celebrations with a commemorative logo, marking four decades of work to advance water, sanitation and hygiene across the country.
The ceremony brought together WaterAid leaders from South Asia, along with current and former colleagues, partners, and friends of the organisation.
The event marked the start of a year-long reflection on WaterAid Bangladesh's journey, achievements, and continued commitment to ensuring safe water, dignified sanitation, and good hygiene for all.
Dr Khairul Islam, Regional Director of WaterAid South Asia; Hasin Jahan, Country Director of WaterAid Bangladesh; Sudarshan Neupane, Country Director of WaterAid Nepal; and Muhammad Junaid, Country Director of WaterAid Pakistan, attended the ceremony as guests of honour.
For forty years, WaterAid Bangladesh has worked with communities, government institutions, and private organisations to address water, sanitation, and hygiene challenges nationwide.
The organisation has expanded access to safe water and sanitation in underserved communities, strengthened systems, influenced policy, and promoted inclusive, climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
WaterAid Bangladesh stated that the anniversary celebration reflects its shared legacy over the past forty years and renews its commitment to a future where everyone can access safe water, dignified sanitation, and good hygiene.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Khairul Islam said, "This anniversary is a moment of gratitude, reflection, and renewed purpose. WaterAid Bangladesh's journey has been shaped by the people and communities we work with, our colleagues, and the partners and institutions who have stood beside us."
"As we mark forty years, we also look forward with a stronger commitment to building a more inclusive, climate-resilient, and water-secure future," he added.
Hasin Jahan said WaterAid Bangladesh's forty-year journey shows how sustained commitment, trusted partnerships, and community-centred action can create lasting change in people's lives.
She added that the celebration honours all who have enriched the organisation's journey.
She noted that the participation, experiences, and leadership of women, young people, and persons with disabilities have made WaterAid Bangladesh's work more inclusive and relevant.
Hasin Jahan said the milestone also inspires the organisation to continue its mission with renewed energy, courage, and hope.
The logo unveiling formally opened WaterAid Bangladesh's fortieth anniversary year.
A series of commemorative initiatives, reflections, and engagements will be held throughout the year to celebrate shared achievements, honour long-standing partnerships, and reaffirm the organisation's commitment to advancing water, sanitation, and hygiene rights for all.
WaterAid Bangladesh expressed appreciation to current and former colleagues, communities, partners, government institutions, civil society members, donors, and friends who have been part of its four-decade journey.
