Neymar debuts Brazil-inspired Puma Future 9 boots ahead of World Cup knockout stage
This is a special boot for me, Neymar said in a statement accompanying the launch.
In a tournament where pink boots have dominated pitches across Mexico, the United States and Canada, PUMA has gone in a strikingly different direction - a boot built around Neymar's personal story, his country and his legacy.
The design drew inspiration from his personal journey and Brazil's iconic football identity.
The 34-year-old was recently spotted wearing the new boots during training. The boots have yet to be officially released by Puma, but industry observers expect them to become Neymar's next signature edition after the sportswear giant unveiled its official multi-silo World Cup collection earlier in the tournament.
Featuring a vibrant yellow upper accented with orange phoenix-inspired graphics and green detailing around the heel and collar, the boots pay tribute to Brazil's national colours while incorporating a deeper personal narrative.
According to Puma, the project was developed in collaboration with Neymar and KidSuper (founder Colm Dillane), with the central theme built around the mythical phoenix: a symbol of resilience, rebirth and perseverance.
The concept reflects Neymar's career trajectory, which has included major injuries, periods of criticism and multiple returns to top-level football. The boots were reportedly hand-delivered to Neymar by Dillane ahead of Brazil's final Group C match against Scotland, reflecting the personal nature of the collaboration.
Beyond the bold visual design, the footwear incorporates several customised elements linked to Neymar's life story. Among them is a sockliner graphic inspired by the player's "Brazilian boy" tattoo, featuring hand-drawn illustrations of a football pitch, a house and the World Cup trophy.
The symbols represent Neymar's journey from his childhood in Brazil to becoming one of football's most recognisable stars. "This is a special boot for me," Neymar said in a statement accompanying the launch. "The Phoenix is my story. Every time people counted me out, I came back. The yellow, the details in the sole, the symbols – all of it is personal. I wanted people to look at this boot and feel what I feel every time I put it on and step onto the pitch for Brazil."
Dillane described the project as a personal milestone. "Neymar is one of my heroes. We're around the same age, which makes it even crazier to be collaborating with someone I've looked up to since I was ten years old. I hope these boots bring him a little luck heading into the World Cup. More than anything, I hope he wins the whole thing." he said.
With Brazil preparing for the knockout rounds, the Puma Future 9 Neymar edition is likely to attract attention both on and off the pitch. Combining national symbolism, artistic design and personal storytelling, the release stands out as one of the tournament's most distinctive football boots.
