BMU mourns death of Associate Professor Dr Chandan Kumar Roy
Associate Professor Dr Chandan Kumar Roy, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), passed away at 6:00am today (13 April 2026) while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of BMU Super Specialised Hospital. He was 56.
News of Dr Roy's passing was received with sadness by the BMU community.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, one son, relatives, colleagues, friends, admirers, and many students. Additionally, his ancestral home is in Hakimpur village, Sujanagar Upazila, Pabna.
In response, BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr FM Siddiqui offered prayers for the peace of his soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Later this morning, Dr Roy's body was kept at the university's Shaheed Dr Milton Hall for colleagues, students, teachers, doctors, officials, and staff to pay their last respects.
Finally, his last rites will be performed today at Sabujbagh Crematorium in the capital.
