Indian journo, ex-Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal gets 10 years in jail for rape
Court overturns acquittal, hands Tejpal decade-long prison sentence.
The Bombay High Court today (6 August) sentenced Tarun Tejpal, a senior journalist and former Tehelka editor, to 10 years in prison after convicting him of raping a former colleague.
The court granted Tejpal two weeks to surrender.
The sentence came nearly 13 years after the alleged incident in Goa, where Tejpal was accused of sexually assaulting a junior colleague inside a hotel elevator during an event.
The quantum of punishment was announced hours after a Goa bench of the Bombay High Court convicted Tejpal.
The bench, comprising Justices Neela Gokhale and Amit Jamsandekar, allowed the Goa government's appeal against his acquittal by a sessions court in May 2021.
