467 tonnes of Indian green chillies imported through Bhomra
The latest shipment follows the government's decision to allow imports from India to help stabilise the domestic market
A total of 467 tonnes of green chillies entered Bangladesh from India through the Bhomra Land Port in Satkhira yesterday (4 August), marking the highest single-day import since the government allowed imports to help stabilise the domestic market.
The consignment arrived in 39 trucks by 8pm, according to port authorities.
Bhomra Customs Station Revenue Officer Mizanur Rahman said the trucks started arriving around noon and continued until the evening.

"After customs and port formalities are completed, the consignments will be released to markets across the country," he said.
On 3 August, another 91 tonnes of Indian green chillies entered the country through the same land port, taking the total imports over the past two days to 558 tonnes.
Traders in Satkhira said the increased supply has already started affecting retail prices.
A visit to local markets, this reporter found locally produced green chillies selling for Tk200-220 per kilogramme, down from Tk300-350 before imports began. Imported Indian green chillies were selling at Tk150-160 per kilogramme.
