Shompa Kabir earns apron from Gordon Ramsay on 'MasterChef: Global Gauntlet'
Shompa also noted that her participation is a moment of pride in representing her community on the global platform
Bangladeshi-American chef Shompa Kabir has earned an apron from Gordon Ramsay on "MasterChef: Global Gauntlet", representing Bangladeshi cuisine and Team Asia Pacific on the show.
She shared on her Facebook page that she was "beyond honored" to become the first Bangladeshi-American woman from Brooklyn, New York to secure the coveted MasterChef apron.
Shompa also noted that her participation is a moment of pride in representing her community on the global platform.
In her remarks, she said, "This achievement should not be used to spread negativity, as there is often unwarranted animosity among different South Asian groups at industry and influencer events."
Sharing her journey in a video, Kabir reflected on her early life at age 15, when she was raised under strict parental supervision and mainly watched cooking shows.
After spending years consistently creating recipe content and building a strong TikTok community through her page, Shompa Kabir has now moved from her smartphone to the stovetop as she enters one of television's toughest cooking competitions at 30 on MasterChef.
She cooked traditional "Halibut Bhuna" with fragrant rice and dal (lentils) for Gordon Ramsay and the other judges. She highlighted the bold and layered flavours of Bengali cuisine, proving that traditional spices can hold their own on the most refined culinary platforms.
The judges praised the dish as "stunning", unanimously said "yes", and awarded her the apron.
MasterChef: Global Gauntlet season premiered in April 2026 on FOX.
The season features home cooks divided into four regional teams – America, Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific – competing for a grand prize of $250,000.
Judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Tiffany Derry evaluate the contestants throughout the competition.
