Government taking steps to develop native livestock breeds
The government is implementing measures to develop native livestock breeds and strengthen farm management across the country, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku said today, 7 July.
The state minister made the remarks during a visit to the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm in Savar.
During the inspection, he said the farm's reliance on its own cultivated grass for animal feed was a positive development. He also emphasised the need to improve farm management to increase productivity and efficiency.
The state minister inspected several key units of the facility, including the calf section, dairy farm, Pabna Cattle Unit, Mirkadim Unit, Holstein-Friesian Unit, Artificial Insemination Laboratory, Breeding Bull Unit and the 100% American Friesian bull.
He reviewed the development of indigenous breeds, fodder production, farm management, and overall infrastructure, and issued necessary directives to the concerned officials.
"Data on paper does not always fully reflect the reality on the ground," the state minister said, adding that field-level inspections provide a more accurate picture and help the ministry identify existing problems and take effective measures to resolve them.
"We do not want to dwell on past setbacks; our focus is entirely on progress. To achieve that, we are taking necessary actions based on real-world conditions through regular field visits," he said.
Md Shahjaman Khan, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services; Md Shahidul Islam, Director of the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm; and other senior officials of the farm were present during the inspection.
