ULAB hosts cultural event on China’s history and heritage
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, in partnership with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh and the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, hosted a vibrant cultural celebration on its campus on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, commemorating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
Centred on the theme "Great Journey, Shared Future", the day-long programme also marked the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory.
Highlights included a photo and video exhibition, a book display, and an exhibition of traditional Chinese culture, providing participants with insights into China's history, governance and cultural legacy.
Students, faculty and staff of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh took part in demonstrations of traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy and paper cutting.
The opening ceremony showcased cultural performances by the Shanghai Chinese Choir of the Confucius Institute and included a guzheng recital.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza PhD of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh said the event underscored the shared commitment of Bangladesh and China to deepening friendship, cultural exchange and mutual understanding through education and people-to-people ties.
The programme concluded with a lecture, "The Story of the Communist Party of China", delivered by Li Shaopeng, Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh.
Li Shaopeng highlighted the Communist Party of China's historical contributions, the significance of the Long March victory, China's developmental journey, its social and cultural identity, and the enduring ties between China and Bangladesh.
Notable guests included Doctor Yang Hui, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, and Huang Moucong, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh, alongside Chinese delegates and performing artists.
Representing the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh were Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Jude William Genilo PhD; Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees and Treasurer Professor Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee PhD; and Registrar Lieutenant Colonel Md Foyzul Islam (retired), along with deans, department heads, faculty, students and staff.
The celebration provided students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of China's history, culture and traditions through exhibitions, performances and interactive sessions.
