Supreme Court sub-post office to provide evening service
The letter stated that, considering customer demand and the need to facilitate government operations, a decision has been made to extend service hours alongside the existing sub-post office.
An initiative has been taken to introduce evening service at the sub-post office within the Supreme Court premises to ensure faster delivery of services for justice seekers.
According to Supreme Court administration sources yesterday (19 April), the Department of Posts issued a letter on 12 April in this regard.
The letter stated that, considering customer demand and the need to facilitate government operations, a decision has been made to extend service hours alongside the existing sub-post office.
The matter has been forwarded to the Postmaster General of the Metropolitan Circle, Dhaka, for implementation.
It also instructed authorities to submit a report after evaluating the effectiveness of the extended service for three months following its launch.
Earlier, on 8 February, Advocate-on-Record of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court SM Arif Mondal applied to the Director General of the Department of Posts to introduce evening or "B-grade" service alongside the existing sub-post office.
If implemented, services will be available until 8:30pm daily, which is expected to expedite the delivery of High Court orders and important documents to relevant courts and litigants.
Officials believe that quicker transmission of bail orders in criminal cases to district judge courts will accelerate the release process of accused individuals.
It is also expected to reduce delays in receiving orders in civil and writ cases. Currently, the sub-post office at the Supreme Court premises operates until 2pm.
The new initiative, once implemented, is expected to ease the workload of the court's dispatch section and enable same-day delivery of daily orders.
Speaking on the matter, SM Arif Mondal said regular communication with the Director General of Posts, Kazi Asadul Islam, helped expedite the initiative.
He expressed hope that the evening service would ensure quicker access to services and reduce administrative delays.
