Walton Plaza supports family under instalment protection policy

Walton Plaza has provided Tk100,582 in financial assistance to the family of a customer who died while repaying instalments for an air conditioner bought from one of its outlets.

The assistance was provided under the company's Hire Purchase and Family Protection Policy, which waives outstanding instalments and offers financial support to the families of eligible customers in the event of their death.

A cheque was handed over to Atia Akter Lina, wife of the late Shafiqul Islam, at Walton Plaza's Adalat Road outlet in Tangail on Tuesday.

Shafiqul bought the air conditioner for Tk118,152 under Walton Plaza's instalment scheme on 24 January 2026. He died following a stroke after paying five instalments.

Under the policy, Walton Plaza waived the remaining instalments and paid Tk100,582 to his family after adjusting the outstanding balance.

"My husband's death left us in a very difficult financial situation, and we couldn't continue paying the instalments," Lina said.

"Walton Plaza stood by us in our time of need. I am grateful for their support," she added.

Walton Plaza said customers who buy products on instalments receive an instalment protection card under the programme.

If a customer dies while the instalment plan is active, the company provides financial assistance ranging from Tk50,000 to Tk300,000, depending on the product's value. If an eligible family member dies, assistance ranging from Tk25,000 to Tk150,000 is provided.

In both cases, the outstanding instalments are deducted from the assistance, with the remaining amount paid to the customer or their family, the company said.

Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former Member Secretary of Tangail district BNP; Saleh Mohammad Shafi Ethen, Member Secretary of the district Swechhasebak Dal; Sujaual Karim Manik, former councillor; Mohammad Lavlu Mia Labu, former President of Tangail Sadar Chhatra Dal; and Shahadat Hossain, Chief Divisional Officer at Walton, attended the cheque handover ceremony.
