UGC, Duet sign MoU for 14-storey residential building project
The Bangladesh University Grants Commission and Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur, signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, 2 July 2026, to launch a two-storey residential building project for the commission's employees.
The agreement was formalised at the Bangladesh University Grants Commission office in Agargaon on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
Under the memorandum of understanding, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology Consultancy Research and Testing Services will prepare the project concept paper, detailed project proposal, architectural design and structural design within the next six months.
At the ceremony, Bangladesh University Grants Commission Chairman Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed said ensuring housing facilities for officers and employees remains a key priority for the commission.
"All parties involved must work with sincerity, efficiency and coordination to implement the project on schedule," he said.
He added that the building is expected to be ready for occupancy within the next two years.
"The project concept paper, detailed project proposal, structural design and architectural design must be completed accurately and swiftly to avoid any construction delays," he added.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal said the university would work with utmost sincerity to fulfil the responsibility entrusted to it by the Bangladesh University Grants Commission.
He expressed confidence that all preparatory work, including the detailed project proposal, would be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The Department of Engineering and Technology has skilled engineers and architects. Providing technical support to the Bangladesh University Grants Commission, the regulatory authority for higher education, is an integral part of the university's mandate," he said.
The meeting was informed that environmentally friendly technologies and the goal of achieving occupancy within two years would be pursued through a government-to-government process. The project will incorporate energy-efficient design, modern architectural features and environmentally friendly technology. University Grants Commission Members, Professor Dr Masuma Habib and Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Islam; Bangladesh University Grants Commission Secretary Dr Md Fakhrul Islam; Director of Planning and Development Division Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan; and Director of General Services and Engineering Division Zafar Ahmed Jahangir, attended the ceremony.
Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Arefin Kawser, Chairman of Consultancy Research and Testing Services Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Tayeb, Head of Architecture Department Professor Dr Bayezid Ismail Chowdhury, Civil Engineering Department Professor Dr Md Khasru Miah, Civil Engineering Department Professor Dr Md Kamal Hossain, Director of Transport Professor Dr Naim Md Lutful Haque, and Assistant Professor of Architecture Department Zoyarder Hafiz Ullah were also present, alongside officials from the Bangladesh University Grants Commission and the university.
After the ceremony, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal, presented a crest to Bangladesh University Grants Commission Chairman, Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, on behalf of the university.
He also sought the Bangladesh University Grants Commission's cooperation to advance the university's education, research, innovation, and infrastructure development. The Bangladesh University Grants Commission chairman assured continued support for the overall development and progress of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology.
