MetLife Foundation, MIDAS launch skills programme for 500 youths
MetLife Foundation, in partnership with Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS), has launched a two-year skills development initiative to train 500 young people in mobile phone repair and entrepreneurship in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The programme will provide participants with practical, market-relevant skills in mobile phone repair and maintenance, enabling them to pursue self-employment and build sustainable livelihoods in the growing digital economy, according to a press release.
With more than 187 million mobile subscribers in Bangladesh and nearly 75% of households owning smartphones, the mobile phone repair sector offers significant income-generating opportunities. The initiative seeks to address the skills gap and connect young people with those opportunities.

The programme reflects MetLife Foundation's commitment to strengthening economic empowerment and resilience in Bangladesh by supporting skills development aligned with market demand.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, MetLife Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer Ala Ahmad said financial security began with economic opportunity.
"This partnership with MIDAS represents a meaningful step towards empowering young people with practical and market-relevant skills," he said.
"By investing in their potential, MetLife Foundation is helping to create pathways to sustainable income, entrepreneurship and long-term resilience in Bangladesh."
MIDAS Chairman Parveen Mahmud said the organisation was proud to collaborate with MetLife Foundation on the initiative.

Established in 1982, MIDAS is a private-sector development organisation dedicated to promoting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
Through its technical, financial and capacity-building services, the organisation has contributed to entrepreneurship and employment generation across Bangladesh.
