EBL provides Tk75 lakh to expand eye care for underprivileged patients
Eastern Bank PLC has granted Tk75 lakh to Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd to expand access to quality eye care for underprivileged and vulnerable patients across Bangladesh.
The funding will enable the hospital to deliver advanced treatment for diabetic eye diseases and retinal disorders, alongside precision eye surgery.
Managing Director Hassan O Rashid of Eastern Bank PLC handed over the cheque to Director Brigadier General Professor Nazrul Islam of Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the Eastern Bank PLC head office in Dhaka.

Under the partnership, Chokher Sheba Hospital will continue to provide consultations, treatment and eye surgery at subsidised rates.
"Restoring sight is more than a medical intervention—it restores dignity, independence and hope," said Brigadier General Professor Nazrul Islam.
"We are grateful for Eastern Bank PLC's support, which will strengthen our ophthalmology services and enable us to make quality eye care more accessible and affordable for those who need it most," he added.
Managing Director Hassan O Rashid said Chokher Sheba Hospital has made a significant contribution to eye care services nationwide.
"Eastern Bank PLC is proud to partner with the hospital to expand its capacity to serve marginalised communities and enhance access to quality eye care services," he said.
Representing Chokher Sheba Hospital at the ceremony were Dr Md Mominul Islam, Chairman; Dr Muntassir, Consultant; and Ayatul Ahammed, Information Technology and Marketing Officer.
EBL representatives included Ahmed Shaheen, Additional Managing Director; Ziaul Karim, Head of Brand, Marketing and Communications; Major Md Abdus Salam, psc (Retired), Head of Administration; Md Abdullah Al Mamun, FCS, Company Secretary; Md Maskur Reza, FCA, Head of Business Information Systems; and Major Arif Chowdhury (Retired), Head of Cash Management.
