DUET hosts innovation, entrepreneurship fair and seminar
Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur, held the "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair 2026" and a seminar on Thursday, 25 June 2026, with more than 200 final-year undergraduate students from 10 departments participating.
The event was jointly organised by the Office of the Director of Research and Extension and the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of the university.
Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
Professor Dr Md Arefin Kowser, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, attended the event as a special guest and panellist.
The event was chaired by Professor Dr Md Obaidur Rahman, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell.
Professor Dr Md Anowarul Abedin, Director of Research and Extension, and Professor Dr Utpal Kumar Das, Director of Student Welfare, also attended as special guests and panellists.
Professor Dr ASMA Haseeb of the Department of Nanomaterials and Ceramic Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology attended as the resource person.
In the morning, a poster presentation-based fair was held on the ninth and 10th floors of the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Administrative Building, where more than 200 final-year undergraduate students from 10 departments presented their work.
Later in the afternoon, a seminar titled "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education for Engineering Graduates: Global Best Practice and National Perspective" was held at the Shaheed Shakil Parvez Auditorium.
Addressing the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal said the event reflected the university's core objectives.
"This successful event proves that we do not only produce graduates; we produce changemakers for society. Our students are solving real-life problems using advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain and virtual reality. We believe our students will lead the future of sustainable engineering and technology," he said.
He also hoped that the government would prioritise appointing talented and experienced Bangladeshi engineers instead of relying heavily on foreign engineers in the country's mega projects.
"Our goal is to produce engineers who will improve people's quality of life by combining technology, innovation and humanity, and take DUET's reputation to a new height globally. We are working to create an environment where our students can become entrepreneurs through industry-academia collaboration," the vice-chancellor said.
He added that students' exceptional creativity, aligned with global standards, would also contribute to national development.
Speaking as a special guest, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Arefin Kowser said the event showed that students were capable not only of theoretical learning but also of international-standard research and innovation.
"This event will make our students more visionary and enterprising in addressing the challenges of the present and future world," he said.
Professor Dr Md Anowarul Abedin said the event was not merely an academic programme but a reflection of a collective commitment to transforming society and the world through innovation and entrepreneurial thinking by applying engineering and technology.
In his speech as chair, Professor Dr Md Obaidur Rahman said students were not only university students but also future researchers, scientists and entrepreneurs who would help shape the world.
The seminar began with a welcome speech by Professor Dr Shafiqul Islam, Additional Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, and ended with a vote of thanks by Professor Dr Shahjalal Khandaker, Additional Director of the Office of the Director of Research and Extension.
Deans of different faculties, heads of departments, directors, provosts, office heads, teachers, students, officials, and employees of the university attended the event.
