The Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary seat has officially fallen vacant following the resignation of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as a member of parliament, according to a government gazette published today (22 August).
The notification, issued by the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat's Legislative Support Wing, stated that Fakhrul submitted his resignation to the Office of the President yesterday afternoon.
It also stated that the resignation was accepted under Article 67(2) of the Constitution, and the seat became vacant from the date of its acceptance. On 20 August, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected Bangladesh's 23rd president, securing 255 votes in the country's first contested presidential election since 1991.
