Rare to have a personality like Mirza Fakhrul as president: Debapriya
The economist praises Fakhrul’s political, administrative and academic experience.
Having a personality like Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir serve at the highest level of the state is a great fortune for citizens, said Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya today (22 August).
He said it was extremely rare for a president to have such a combination of experience in education, grassroots organisation and administration.
Debapriya said those who personally know Mirza Fakhrul would unanimously acknowledge his qualifications.
Highlighting Fakhrul's professional background, he said, "He has worked as a teacher, giving him a deep connection with knowledge and education. On the other hand, having served as a local government representative, he understands very well the aspirations and concerns of people at the grassroots."
Debapriya said Fakhrul had also led a major political party during an extremely turbulent and challenging period, demonstrating his strong organisational ability.
He also noted Fakhrul's experience of serving as a minister at different times in government.
Describing the combination of such experiences as rare, Debapriya expressed his enthusiasm over Fakhrul becoming president.
"For a president, such a combination of diverse qualifications is truly rare. Today is a day of immense joy and good fortune for me," he said.
