9 die from measles, related symptoms in 24hrs; toll exceeds 350
In 24 hours between 8am yesterday and 8am today, 769 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide.
Nine more children died from measles and related symptoms between 8am yesterday and 8am today (9 May), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During the same period, 769 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide.
Of these, 489 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles.
So far this year, at least 61 children have died from confirmed measles infections in Bangladesh. In addition, 291 children have died with symptoms consistent with measles.
DGHS data shows that between 15 March and 8 May, a total of 6,979 measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.
According to the latest health bulletin, 47,656 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide. Of these, 29,746 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
