Measles vaccination campaign to begin in Bagerhat on Monday
The district-wide campaign will run until 10 May and will cover children aged between 6 and 59 months.
A Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign will begin in Bagerhat on Monday (20 April), aiming to protect children from the highly contagious disease.
The decision was announced after a meeting at Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium today (16 April).
The district-wide campaign will run until 10 May and will cover children aged between 6 and 59 months.
According to officials, a total of 17,361 children in Bagerhat Sadar upazila will be brought under the vaccination programme.
However, the total number of children to be covered in the district is yet to be finalised by the Civil Surgeon's office.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Prodip Kumar Bakshe said measles is a highly contagious infectious disease, noting that one patient can transmit the infection to up to 18 others.
He stressed the importance of awareness, isolation of suspected cases, and timely hospital admission if symptoms appear.
He also urged parents to ensure their children receive the vaccine to prevent measles and rubella infection.
According to the civil surgeon's office, samples from 67 suspected patients have been sent to Dhaka for testing as of today. Among them, four have tested positive for measles.
The district health department has urged full cooperation from all sections of society to ensure the success of the programme.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Atiya Khatun attended the meeting as the chief guest. Among others, government officials, imams, priests and media representatives were also present.
