Man arrested after alleged sexual assault of child in Cox's Bazar
Police arrested the suspect after receiving an emergency 999 call.
A man has been arrested in Cox's Bazar after an emergency call to the National Emergency Service 999 alleged that he sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl.
According to a police press release, the incident took place in the Ring Road area under Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station at around 9:30pm yesterday (27 July).
The caller informed 999 that the child had allegedly been sexually assaulted by Nurul Afsar, 32.
According to the complaint, the suspect had asked the child to buy betel leaf. When she later went to his house to deliver it, he allegedly touched her private parts.
The child screamed, prompting neighbours and her parents to rush to the scene and rescue her, the press release said.
After receiving the emergency call, the 999 service alerted Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station. The operation was coordinated by Police Dispatcher Sub-Inspector Md Awlad Hossain, while the call was received by 999 call taker Constable Sujon.
A police team later raided the area and arrested Nurul Afsar, son of the late Nurul Kabir and a resident of Buddhaghona in Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.
Police said the suspect had been assaulted by angry locals before officers arrived and sustained injuries.
Following his arrest, he was admitted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Legal proceedings over the incident are underway, the press release added.
