US claims ‘total control’ of strait of Hormuz as Iran rejects Trump’s statement

The Strait of Hormuz is at the centre of a growing confrontation between the United States and Iran. Donald Trump claims the US has "total control" of the waterway, while Iran insists it remains under Tehran's control and says vessels need Iranian permission to pass. With a June ceasefire deal collapsed and a US naval blockade in place, Iran says it will not reopen the strait until commitments are fulfilled.
