Lionel Messi delivered a historic performance as Argentina opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-0 victory over Algeria in Kansas City, USA. The Argentine captain scored a stunning hat-trick on a night packed with milestones, including his 200th international appearance and a record sixth World Cup tournament. Messi's three goals also took him to 16 World Cup goals, drawing level with the tournament's all-time scoring record.
