Airlines Cut 13,000 Flights in May as Middle East Crisis Deepens
Global airlines are facing major disruption after around 13,000 flights were cancelled this month, removing nearly two million seats from schedules worldwide. Lufthansa plans to cut thousands more flights, while Istanbul and Munich have seen some of the largest reductions as carriers respond to operational pressure and rising aviation costs.
Airlines say the Middle East conflict has caused jet fuel prices to more than double, forcing route consolidation and possible fare increases ahead of the summer travel season. UK authorities and industry groups insist fuel supplies remain stable, with airlines working to protect busy July and August holiday schedules from further disruption worldwide.
