Toffee faces subscriber backlash after Argentina match streaming disruption
Football fans expressed frustration after being unable to watch most of the Argentina-Austria match on Toffee, despite purchasing the platform's Tk129 World Cup package.
Subscribers of Banglalink's streaming platform Toffee were unable to watch the Argentina-Austria World Cup match despite purchasing a special World Cup package, prompting widespread frustration among football fans.
Users reported that from the start of the match at 11pm yesterday (22 June), they either could not log into the platform or were unable to stream the game even after logging in. The disruption reportedly continued for around 70 minutes.
Toffee has been offering a special World Cup package for Tk129, allowing users to watch matches live on the platform.
Several subscribers alleged that they were unable to watch the tournament's opening two matches on Toffee. During the Argentina-Austria match yesterday night, users said they missed most of the game due to technical problems on the platform.
Raiyyan Amir Arian, a Toffee subscriber from South Banasree in the capital, expressed his disappointment to TBS.
"The match could not be watched on Toffee either on television or mobile phones. I stayed up all night repeatedly trying to access the platform on both devices, but it did not work," he said.
"Toffee heavily promoted the package and sold it for Tk129. But it is not showing the matches or is unable to do so. This is a major deception against customers. The government should monitor streaming platforms and take punitive action where necessary."
Zahurul Islam, who works for a private company, also criticised the service.
"If Toffee cannot stream the matches, why did it sell a World Cup package? Why should customers have to suffer after paying for the service?" he said.
He added that he had invited friends to his home to watch Argentina's match together but was unable to do so because of the streaming issues.
"I am an Argentina supporter. I invited friends over to enjoy the match at home, but we could not watch it on Toffee. Eventually, we had to use third-party apps to watch the game," he said.
In response to queries from TBS, Toffee said in a written statement: "We are aware that some users experienced streaming disruptions on Toffee last night. Our teams have addressed the issue and are closely monitoring the platform to ensure a stable viewing experience. We appreciate our users' patience and continued support."
