Fifa's Infantino reportedly offers Morocco 2030 World Cup final in bid for re-election support

Fifa President Gianni Infantino has reportedly offered to stage the 2030 World Cup final in Morocco in exchange for the country's support for his re-election campaign ahead of the governing body's presidential vote in 2027.

According to the reports, Infantino has promised that the final would be held at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, a 115,000-seat venue currently under construction, in an effort to secure a formal statement of backing from Morocco as he seeks a fourth and final term as Fifa president, says Forbes.

The reported proposal comes as Infantino faces growing criticism over a failed plan to sell a stake in Fifa's commercial operations to private investors.

The plan, which reportedly involved selling a 20% stake for $4.2 billion, drew opposition from several football governing bodies and critics who argued it threatened Fifa's non-profit structure.

Reports said Infantino has lost support from the English and Welsh Football Associations, while Uefa members voted to boycott Fifa competitions after details of the private equity proposal emerged. Former players and government officials were also among those who criticised the plan.

The reported offer to Morocco comes despite competing claims over the location of the 2030 World Cup final.

Spain's football federation has maintained that Spain will lead the jointly hosted tournament and that the final will "without a doubt" be staged in the country.

The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, while the opening three matches are scheduled to take place in South America to mark the tournament's centenary.

Fifa's next presidential election is scheduled for March 2027 in Morocco. According to the reports, Morocco's endorsement is viewed as a key factor in Infantino's bid to secure another term.

Neither Fifa nor the Moroccan authorities immediately commented on the reported proposal.
