England, Argentina deadlocked at halftime in World Cup semi-final
Neither side could find a breakthrough in a tightly contested first half, with Argentina coming closest through Enzo Fernández's long-range effort.
England and Argentina went into the break level at 0-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final after a fiercely contested first half on Wednesday (15 July).
Both teams created few clear-cut chances, with Argentina enjoying more possession in spells.
Enzo Fernández came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute when his powerful strike from distance flew narrowly over the crossbar.
England threatened from set-pieces, but John Stones headed wide from a Reece James free-kick in the 33rd minute.
The physical encounter saw two yellow cards shown before halftime, with England's Elliot Anderson booked in the 37th minute and Argentina defender Lisandro Martínez cautioned five minutes later.
With a place in the World Cup final at stake, both sides will look to raise the tempo after the interval.
