Kushtia July Memorial torched, pro-Hasina slogans caught on video
A video showing a man chanting pro-Sheikh Hasina slogans at the site has sparked outrage as police investigate the late-night fire.
A memorial commemorating the July Mass Uprising was set on fire in Kushtia last night (10 August), while a video circulated on social media showed a man chanting slogans in support of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the site.
The July Memorial, located in front of Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia, was allegedly torched late at night. The incident came to light after a roughly one-minute video of the incident began circulating on social media today (11 August).
In the video, a man is seen standing in front of the memorial and making statements in support of Sheikh Hasina. He is also heard chanting pro-Hasina slogans.

The man appears to reject the July Uprising and claims that Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh in December.
The video has triggered allegations that members or supporters of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League may have been involved in the incident.
However, the identity of the man in the video and his organisational affiliation could not be independently verified.
Police visited the site after receiving information about the incident.
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabir Hossain Matubbar said police were working to identify those responsible.
"We are trying to identify those involved in the incident. The perpetrators will be brought to justice," the OC said.
