HMD enters Bangladesh with locally assembled feature phone
Human Mobile Devices, the company behind Nokia-branded mobile phones, has entered Bangladesh with the launch of its locally assembled HMD 101 feature phone.
The Europe-based company is marketing its own-brand handsets in Bangladesh through technology products distributor Salextra Limited. The HMD 101 is being assembled at Salextra's production facility.
The handset was launched at Momo Inn Hotel in Bogura on 7 July, 2026, in the presence of distributors and retailers from northern Bangladesh.
HMD said the phone was designed for people who rely on feature phones for everyday communication, as well as professionals and travellers seeking a secondary device with extended battery life and fewer digital distractions.
The HMD 101 features a 1,000mAh battery, which the company claims can deliver up to seven hours of continuous talk time on a single charge. It also has a dual LED torch, a built-in MP3 player, a wireless FM radio, and an automatic call-recording facility. Its storage can be expanded by up to 32GB using a microSD card.
"Bangladesh is a highly important market for us. Our goal is to deliver reliable technology to customers at affordable prices without compromising on quality," HMD General Manager for Emerging Asia Vivek Khandelwal said.
HMD Bangladesh Business Manager Kazi Alamin said feature phones remained the primary means of communication for millions of people in the country.
"Launching the HMD 101 from northern Bangladesh is particularly significant for us. The phone combines Nokia's renowned durability with HMD's modern features," he said.
Salextra Limited's Chief Business Officer, Mohammed Asif, and Head of Sales, Mamun Khan, also attended the launch.
