Galleri Kaya hosts art workshop for 15 JAAGO Foundation children
Fifteen children under the care of JAAGO Foundation participated in an interactive art workshop at Galleri Kaya in Uttara, Dhaka, today as part of an initiative supported by Standard Chartered Bangladesh to expand access to creative experiences for underserved communities.
Galleri Kaya organised the workshop, which was led by Indian artist Chandra Bhattacharya. Artist Atin Basak and several other local artists guided the children through painting and a range of creative activities, helping them explore different techniques and express their ideas.
As part of the initiative, participating artists will travel to Madhupur on 11–12 July to conduct interactive sessions with members of the indigenous Garo community. The sessions will use art to celebrate the community's culture, heritage, traditions and way of life.
Organisers said the two workshops aim to support children's mental development, emotional well-being, and confidence through creativity and self-expression. The initiative also seeks to promote inclusion and cultural diversity while expanding access to art among underserved and indigenous communities.
An exhibition featuring works by Chandra Bhattacharya will be inaugurated at Galleri Kaya today (10 July) and will remain open until 21 July.
Md Enamul Huque, chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said children's development required more than access to education, with creativity, imagination, confidence and emotional well-being also needing support.
"Through our partnership with Galleri Kaya, we are proud to support initiatives that bring the transformative power of art to children and communities who may otherwise have limited access to such experiences," he said.
"We hope these workshops inspire young minds to think creatively, build confidence and discover new possibilities for their future."
