Sweden, UNDP extend justice reform support for Bangladesh
The Government of Sweden and the United Nations Development Programme have renewed their strategic partnership, committing an additional 3 million Swedish krona to advance Bangladesh's justice reform initiatives.
This funding aims to make justice services in Bangladesh more effective, accountable and accessible to citizens.
The partnership underscores Sweden and the United Nations Development Programme's ongoing commitment to building institutions that serve citizens and uphold the rule of law.
With this support, the project will help strengthen the judiciary's capacity and responsiveness, and enhance the reform readiness of Bangladesh's Attorney General's Office.
Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks said, "Sweden remains committed to supporting Bangladesh's efforts to strengthen inclusive, accountable and rights-based justice institutions. This additional contribution reflects our shared commitment to reforms that can improve public trust and access to services."
Outgoing Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme Bangladesh Stefan Liller said, "Justice services are essential to public confidence, social cohesion and sustainable development. We value Sweden's continued partnership in supporting a judiciary that is more responsive to the needs of people."
The amendment follows the original agreement signed between Sweden and the United Nations Development Programme on 11 December 2024.
