Megasan opens medical gas equipment assembly plant in Ishwardi
Bangladesh has inaugurated its first medical gas pipeline equipment assembly plant in Ishwardi, Pabna—an initiative poised to significantly reduce reliance on imports and bolster the country's hospital infrastructure.
The facility, operated by Megasan Medical Industries Bangladesh Limited, has been set up in the Arankola area through a joint venture between Türkiye-based Megasan Turkey and Megasan Bangladesh.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Member of Parliament Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain attended the inauguration ceremony virtually as the chief guest on Saturday afternoon.
He said local production of internationally standard medical equipment would reduce dependence on imports and save significant foreign currency, adding that such initiatives would help modernise and strengthen Bangladesh's healthcare sector.
State Minister for Social Welfare and Member of Parliament Farzana Sharmin Putul formally inaugurated the facility by unveiling a commemorative plaque.
She later jointly inaugurated an exhibition of advanced medical equipment with Vice Chairman of Megasan Turkey Hayrettin Silektin.
Convener of Pabna District BNP Habibur Rahman Habib and Professor Doctor Kamrul Islam, Independence Award recipient, jointly inaugurated the facility's equipment testing laboratory.
Editor of Dainik Uttar Janata Bobby Sardar moderated the programme, which began with the national anthems of Bangladesh and Türkiye, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of deceased physicians.
A short documentary on the company's operations and future plans was screened at the event. Imam of Ishwardi Central Jame Mosque, Maulana Md Oliullah, recited from the Holy Quran.
The plant has been developed in line with the technical expertise of Megasan Medical Systems, a Türkiye-based medical equipment manufacturer, and international standards.
According to the company, approximately $15 million has been invested in the initial phase of the Arankola plant.
Company representatives said Megasan's medical equipment, manufactured in Türkiye, has been used in hospitals across Bangladesh since 2007. The company formally began its operations in Bangladesh in 2018, and the foundation stone for the Ishwardi assembly plant was laid in 2025.
The facility will assemble a range of essential equipment for modern hospitals, including medical gas supply and pipeline systems, medical gas outlets, manifold and control systems, oxygen and vacuum plants, bed head panels, medical pendants, compressed air systems, and alarm and monitoring systems.
Stakeholders said local assembly of these medical systems would help reduce dependence on imported equipment, improve the availability of spare parts, and ensure faster technical support and maintenance services for hospitals.
The company's long-term strategy includes gradually expanding local production capacity, facilitating technology transfer, developing skilled human resources, and strengthening Bangladesh's medical equipment industrial base.
