India to resume tourist visas for Bangladeshis from 28 June
The announcement was made by newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at a briefing held at the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka today (25 June).
India will resume issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens from 28 June, ending a suspension that has been in place for nearly two years.
The announcement was made by newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at a briefing held at the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka today (25 June).
"From 28 June, the process of issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens will begin again," Trivedi said.
According to the Indian envoy, visa services will be available through five Indian Visa Application Centres located in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet and Khulna.
The announcement came shortly after Trivedi formally assumed his duties in Bangladesh by presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
He arrived in Dhaka on 12 June to take up his responsibilities as India's High Commissioner. India suspended tourist visa services for Bangladeshi nationals following the political transition in Bangladesh on 5 August 2024.
Since then, visa issuance had been limited primarily to medical and business travellers. Indian authorities have yet to announce whether any additional requirements or restrictions will apply to tourist visa applicants under the resumed programme.
