Southern University organises event to strengthen creative communication
Southern University's Department of Business Administration hosted Communication Day 2026 on Thursday, 21 May, to foster young leadership and advance creative communication skills among students.
Building on this focus, the event's theme, 'Your Voice, Your Power, Your Future,' underscored the importance of empowering students through effective communication.
Professor Dr Israt Jahan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, attended the inaugural ceremony. Other attendees included Professor Chowdhury Mohammad Ali, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Sociology and Law; Professor Dr Engineer Mozammel Haque, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering; Professor Dr Md Shawkatul Meher; Professor Engineer Ashutosh Nath; and Dr Md Sirajul Islam, Head of the Department.
To support faculty and guest attendance, faculty members and students from all 77 batches of the BBA and THM programmes participated in the event.
Throughout the event, departmental teachers and mentors Mohammad Hassan, Mushfeqa Reza Siddique and Sal Sabil provided ongoing guidance and coordination.
Over 100 students from Batch 77 participated. They were divided into 10 teams. Each team presented a distinct facet of business communication through dedicated stalls and exhibitions.
These presentations addressed oral and written communication, email etiquette, meeting management, public speaking, body language and communication networks, providing a comprehensive overview of business communication skills.
Students showcased their ideas using poster presentations, danglers, festoons, and digital banners. Additional formats included team presentations, focus group discussions, and interactive displays.
Through these activities, the event enabled students to develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, professionalism and communication skills, offering practical exposure relevant to future career paths.
During the closing session, Mohammad Moin Uddin, Regional Head, Southern Region, United Commercial Bank, and Sabre Shah, Founder, Chittagong Live, commended the students for their creativity. They urged the students to pursue practical, knowledge-based activities alongside academic studies.
After the ceremony, guests toured the stalls, recognising students' presentations, exhibitions, creativity and application of communication concepts.
To conclude the event, all participating teams received certificates and crests in recognition of their efforts.
Additionally, the top three stalls received awards for creativity, presentation skills and overall performance.
