The rescued doctor is currently receiving treatment at a local health complex.
Police have rescued a veterinary doctor who was reportedly abducted in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira and detained three individuals in connection with the incident.
The victim, Animesh Parmanya, a resident of Baishkhali village, was rescued around 9:45am today (4 May) from the Sundarbans' Dholai Khal area on a fisherman's boat and taken to Mirgang.
The detainees are Mahamudul Hasan Don, Abdul Jabbar, and their associate Shahinur Rahman, all residents of the Mirgang area under Munshiganj union.
Confirming the matter, Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said police, along with the Coast Guard and Forest Department, were preparing for a joint operation in the area.
"Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the kidnappers released the victim before the operation began," he said.
According to family members, Animesh was lured on Saturday (2 May) from Sundarbans Bazar under the pretext of treating a sick cow.
He was then abducted, and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk20 lakh. A general diary was filed with the local police station that night after he went missing.
The family said they went to Mirgang around 9pm on Sunday with Tk7 lakh, following instructions from the abductors. However, due to police activity in the area, the kidnappers did not maintain contact.
Later this morning, the abductors released Animesh from Dholai Khal, placing him on a fisherman's boat. Police rescued him after he reached the shore.
The victim said he was taken into the Sundarbans by a man named Ashraf, who had called him to treat a sick cow.
From there, the abductors used his phone to demand Tk20 lakh from his wife. Animesh said he was physically assaulted during captivity.
The rescued doctor is currently receiving treatment at a local health complex.
Police said the detained suspects are believed to be linked to a forest pirate group, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
