A total of eight people have been rescued alive, while 23 bodies have been recovered from inside the bus by the fire service, two by locals and one body was recovered by navy divers.
The bodies of 26 people have been recovered after a bus carrying at least 40 people plunged into the Padma River yesterday (25 March). Eight people are still missing.
Yesterday afternoon (25 March), at approximately 5:20pm, a Souhardo Paribahan passenger bus was attempting to board a ferry at Daulatdia ferry ghat's pontoon No 3 when it plunged into the Padma River.
The bus lost control, overturned, and sank to an estimated depth of 60 feet, according to a Fire Service and Civil Defence note issued this morning (26 March) at 9:37am.

A utility ferry named Hasna Hena struck the pontoon with significant force. The impact caused the driver to lose control, and the bus overturned and plunged into the Padma River.
The rescue vessel Hamza salvaged the bus at 12:35am today, nearly six hours after it sank. As of this morning, 26 bodies have been recovered.
