Saudi Arabia to observe Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday as crescent moon not sighted
Tomorrow (19 March) will be the last day of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia.
This year's Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia on Friday (20 March), following the non-sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, meaning Ramadan will be 30 days.
The sighting of the crescent moon determines the first day of Shawwal, which marks Eid-ul-Fitr.
Usually, Eid in Bangladesh is celebrated a day later than in Saudi Arabia.
However, several villages in Chattogram, Moulvibazar, Chandpur and Jamalpur celebrate Eid in line with Saudi Arabia.
People in Dhaka have already left for their ancestral homes to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones despite growing worries about the ongoing war in the Middle East. Bangladesh is in a very tight spot as it depends almost entirely on imports of fuel oil, LNG and LPG from Middle Eastern countries.
The United States-Israel alliance struck Iran on 28 February. Iran later retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases in Gulf countries.
Both sides are now targeting energy infrastructure in Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern states, a development that could deepen the energy crisis in many countries, including Bangladesh.
