BASIS hosts iftar to strengthen ICT sector networking
The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) brought together leaders from across the nation's technology landscape at an iftar in the capital on 11 March, aiming to deepen collaboration and drive growth in the country's information and communication technology sector.
Ariful Haque Choudhury, MP, attended as chief guest, joined by special guests Md Amirul Islam Khan, MP (Sirajganj-5), and Md Monjurul Islam, MP (Dinajpur-1).
Other attendees included AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony, convener of BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026, co-convener Ferdous Alam, BASIS associate committee members, representatives from member companies, ICT industry leaders and stakeholders.
BASIS Administrator Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, also joint secretary of the Local Government Division, chaired the event.
Addressing the gathering, Ariful Haque Choudhury highlighted the ICT sector's pivotal role in Bangladesh's economic diversification and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting organisations such as BASIS in advancing the sector's expansion.
"The ICT industry has contributed significantly to job creation, export growth, and the development of the domestic technology ecosystem," he said, noting Bangladesh's potential to become a global hub for software and IT services in the near future.
He emphasised Bangladesh's large pool of skilled youth and the importance of public-private collaboration, stating the country is well positioned to meet global demand for ICT professionals, with BASIS leading the way and the government supporting training, skill development, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship.
Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan reiterated BASIS's commitment to elevating Bangladesh's ICT sector, stressing that sustainable growth depends on collective action by all stakeholders.
He added that the iftar gathering had fostered stronger industry ties and created new opportunities for collaboration and business engagement among BASIS members.
"Global demand for Bangladesh's ICT products and services continues to rise. BASIS is working proactively to position the nation's digital sector more competitively on the international stage," he said.
AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony thanked distinguished guests and ICT community members for their participation, noting that the Ramadan gathering presented a valuable opportunity to strengthen goodwill, cooperation, and industry networking.
BASIS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth of Bangladesh's software and IT services sector and contributing to a prosperous, technology-driven future for the country.
