NBR opens online income tax return filing for FY27, offers 5% early rebate
From the 2026-27 tax year, individual taxpayers who submit their returns between July and September will receive a 5% incentive on net tax payable, capped at Tk25,000
The National Board of Revenue has launched its online income tax return filing service for individual taxpayers for the 2026-27 tax year, aiming to make tax services easier, faster and more transparent.
According to an NBR press release, the service became available from today (22 July).
From the 2026-27 tax year, individual taxpayers who submit their returns between July and September will receive a 5% incentive on net tax payable, capped at Tk25,000.
Returns filed after September will not qualify for the incentive, while those submitted after December will be subject to additional tax, the NBR said, urging taxpayers to file their returns on time.
The NBR said the e-return system has gained widespread popularity since its introduction in 2021. During the 2025-26 tax year, a record 47 lakh individual taxpayers successfully filed their income tax returns online.
Under a special order issued by the NBR, online filing of income tax returns has been made mandatory for all individual taxpayers.
However, taxpayers aged 65 or above, physically challenged or persons with disabilities, upon submission of relevant certificates, Bangladeshis living abroad, representatives filing returns on behalf of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh may continue to submit paper returns.
Other individual taxpayers facing registration-related problems with the e-return system may also submit paper returns with approval from the relevant additional or joint tax commissioner.
The NBR said taxpayers experiencing difficulties with online filing can seek assistance through its call centre (09643717171) and other electronic channels during office hours on working days.
