Shama seeks Ireland’s backing for Bangladesh's 81st UNGA presidency bid
The two sides exchanged views on regional and global issues, underscoring the importance of peace, stability, and strengthened international cooperation.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today (31 March) sought Ireland's support for Bangladesh's candidacy for the presidency of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for 2026–27.
She made the appeal when non-resident Irish Ambassador to Bangladesh Kevin Kelly paid a courtesy call on her at the foreign ministry, according to a ministry press release.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the mutually beneficial partnership and explored cooperation in trade and commerce, development, education, sports and culture, as well as consular and migration matters.
They also discussed enhancing collaboration in both bilateral and multilateral forums.
