Koica to provide $2m grant to Bangladesh to facilitate vocational training
The grant will fund a new academic building at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Center in Chattogram.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) will provide a $2 million grant to Bangladesh to upgrade the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Center (BKTTC) in Chattogram and strengthen its technical and vocational training programmes.
The government of Bangladesh and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) for the project today (17 September), according to a press release issued by the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
Titled "Ex-Post Management Project for Enhancing the Vocational Training Program of TTC, Chittagong," the project will be implemented by the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Koica will provide the full $2 million grant for the project.
The project aims to ensure the continued and safe operation of the BKTTC by replacing its outdated existing facility with a new two-storey academic building built on a foundation designed for six storeys, the ERD said.
It will also seek to improve the quality of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes at the centre and contribute to Bangladesh's economic development by producing highly skilled technical workers.
The project will be implemented from 2026 to 2028.
Masuma Akter, additional secretary and wing chief (Asia, JEC and F&F) of the ERD, signed the RoD and ToR on behalf of the Bangladesh government, while Jihoon Kim, country director of Koica, signed on behalf of the South Korean government.
