China awaits PM Tarique’s visit: Envoy
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said BNP's recent visit to China had generated considerable interest among the Chinese public and received prominent coverage in China’s state media.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's upcoming visit to China is being eagerly awaited by both the Chinese government and its people.
He made the remarks at a dinner hosted at InterContinental Dhaka yesterday (7 May), said a press release issued today (8 May).
The ambassador said BNP's recent visit to China had generated considerable interest among the Chinese public and received prominent coverage in China's state media.
At the start of the event, BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for inviting the party to China.
He described Bangladesh and China as close friends, recalling the "Look East Policy" of former president Ziaur Rahman, whom he credited as an architect of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Fakhrul said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would follow the path shown by his parents and continue advancing relations with the Chinese Communist Party.
He also discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties, including expanding co-operation in industry, literature, trade, the economy and public administration.
