PM pledges to fulfil aspirations of martyrs, victims of democratic movements
Earlier, the Prime Minister handed over appointment letters to people from families affected by enforced disappearances and killings and victims of the July mass uprising.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (29 August) pledged that his government would make its utmost efforts to fulfil the aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives or suffered injuries in the struggles for independence, democracy and people's rights.
Addressing a programme at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon where appointment letters were handed over to 74 members from families of the victims of enforced disappearances and killings and the July uprising, he also said the government would not step back from its commitment despite practical challenges.
"The members of your families who are no longer with us made the greatest sacrifices for this country and its people with certain goals and aspirations…The present government will make its utmost efforts to fulfil the goals and aspirations that they held for the country and its people," Tarique said.

He acknowledged that various practical realities might sometimes delay the fulfilment of the expectations of the families of martyrs and those injured during the mass uprising. "But we will not retreat from this path, InshaAllah."
The Prime Minister said the government's efforts were aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, those who sacrificed for democracy at different times since independence, and those who were killed or injured during the July uprising.
"Many of the people we are remembering today should have been here with us, but they are not. Only Allah knows where and in what condition they are," he said.
Tarique prayed for the well-being of those who remain missing and offered condolences to their families.
He said the families present at the programme have made immense sacrifices for the country and its people.
The Prime Minister said the government considered the support of the affected families a source of strength and inspiration rather than simply something it was providing to them.
"Some may say that the government is standing beside these families. I would put it differently. It is because we have the support of these people and their families that the government is working with greater determination and enthusiasm to fulfil the aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives," he said.
"You are our source of inspiration, encouragement and strength," the Prime Minister told the families.
He said the government would continue to seek their support and cooperation for as long as the people entrusted it with the responsibility of running the country.
The Prime Minister also said the government would always try to stand beside families and individuals who contributed to the restoration of democracy, regardless of their political affiliation or background.
Recognising that the losses suffered by the families could never be fully compensated, Tarique said, "We were with you, we are with you and, InshaAllah, we will remain with you."
He urged the families to continue supporting and encouraging the government so that it could work to fulfil the aspirations of the martyrs and all democratic fighters for the country and its people.

Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said 74 people received job appointment letters including family members of victims of enforced disappearance and killing, injured fighters and family members of those killed during the July mass uprising.
The recipients expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the appointments and demanded justice for those responsible for enforced disappearances and killings.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, Deputy Press Secretaries Zahidul Islam Rony, Hasan Shiplu, Suzauddaula, Shahadat Shadhin, Assistant Press Secretaries AKM Nazmul Haque, Shahriar Pamir and Moksedul Momin Mithun of Amra BNP Poribar, among others, were present.
