No further extension for company tax return submission beyond 17 May: NBR
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has said it will not extend the deadline for submitting income tax returns for taxpayers other than individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families beyond 17 May.
In a press release issued on Thursday (14 May), the revenue authority said the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2025-2026 tax year for all taxpayers except individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families had already been extended until 15 May to support revenue collection, increase revenue earnings, and facilitate taxpayers.
However, as 15 May falls on a government holiday (Friday), the next working day — 17 May — will be treated as the final date for return submission under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 2023, the NBR said.
It further stated that no additional extension would be granted after the expiry of the legally fixed and extended deadline.
According to the press release, taxpayers other than individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families who fail to submit their returns within the stipulated period will still be able to file returns under the self-assessment system until 30 June 2026 at their respective tax circles, subject to payment of the prescribed tax in line with Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023.
The NBR also sought the sincere cooperation of all taxpayers in maintaining the country's economic progress and complying with legal obligations.
