UCSI University Bangladesh appoints new dean of CSE
UCSI University Bangladesh Branch Campus welcomes Professor Dr Syed Akhter Hossain as the new Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Digital Innovation (FCSDI), marking a significant step towards academic excellence and innovation.
Professor Dr Hossain is an internationally recognised computer scientist and AI expert. He brings decades of experience in education, research, and innovation. He has written over 250 publications, with more than 3,000 citations on Google Scholar. He is respected for his contributions to advancing science and technology in Bangladesh.
Before UCSI, he was Professor and Dean at Daffodil International University. He developed the Bengali Braille Machine, which improved access to education for visually impaired students.
His achievements earned him several awards, including the Digital Innovation Award (2011) and the National ICT Award (2016). He received the Best Professor in IT Award from CISO-Asia (2012) and the ACM DeBalsi Award (2022) at the 42nd ICPC World Finals. He is also ranked as a top researcher by the AD Scientific Index.
Professor Dr Hossain is an alumnus of Rajshahi University. He pursued post-doctoral training at Lumière Lyon University in France. He also received an academic fellowship from Linnaeus University in Sweden.
UCSI's senior management welcomed the appointment. Support came from Registrar Professor Dr Shah Samiur Rashid, Deputy Registrar Syed Lubaab Rahman, faculty, and student representatives.
Professor Dr Hossain is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening UCSI University Bangladesh's academic and research excellence in computer science and digital innovation with his visionary leadership and expertise.
