Naval Police reviews waterway security ahead of Durga Puja
Naval Police has stepped up security for Durga Puja, reviewing arrangements for puja mandaps, river routes and ferry ghats and planning stronger patrols and round-the-clock monitoring during the celebrations.
Naval Police Additional Inspector General Md Rezaul Karim chaired a meeting at the Dhaka headquarters to assess preparations for peaceful celebrations and safe idol immersion, according to the press release.
The discussion focused on maintaining order during immersion and preventing untoward incidents on waterways linked to the festivities.
Rezaul said Naval Police personnel would remain alert around the clock so Hindu devotees and visitors could celebrate Durga Puja safely and joyfully on the waterways.
He instructed officials to prevent overcrowding during idol immersion, complete immersion within the designated time, and ensure boats did not carry more passengers than their capacity.
He also stressed the need to keep life jackets and other necessary rescue equipment available.
The meeting decided to strengthen patrols at key points along waterways and maintain 24-hour monitoring through the control room.
Senior Naval Police officials and representatives of the relevant Puja Celebration Committees attended.
Committee leaders said they were satisfied with the preparations and security measures and pledged to follow the safety instructions.
