LGED holds inception workshop on climate-resilient infrastructure
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) on Thursday hosted an inception workshop to launch the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming Project (CRIMP) at its Dhaka headquarters.
The event, organised by the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Centre (CReLIC), brought together key government and sector representatives to discuss the integration of climate resilience into local infrastructure planning.
Md Azharul Islam, Additional Chief Engineer of LGED and Director of CReLIC, presided over the workshop. Md Belal Hossain, Chief Engineer of LGED, attended as chief guest.
The chief guest announced that, as part of the initiative, a database of post-disaster damage will be developed in three pilot districts—Satkhira, Bhola, and Barguna. Leveraging geospatial data, the project aims to ensure evidence-based risk identification, strategic planning, and targeted investment decisions.
Prof Dr Hasan Mahmud, Team Leader of NACOM-O.CREEDS JV, outlined the methodology for collecting disaster loss and damage data, and presented the project's overall work plan.
Representatives from the Department of Environment, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Department of Disaster Management, Public Works Department, and Bangladesh Water Development Board attended and contributed to the discussions.
Other notable attendees from LGED included Additional Chief Engineers Syeda Asma Khatun, Kazi Saiful Kabir and Md Wahiduzzaman; Superintending Engineers Md Akhter Hossain and Md Golam Mowla; Project Director of CRIMP-CReLIC Md Abdul Khaleque; Executive Engineer Fatema Ismat Ara; Assistant Engineer Arpan Paul; and CReLIC specialist consultants.
