Islami Bank launches Bangla QR campaign with smartphones for 100 winners
Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has launched a nationwide campaign offering smartphones to 50 customers and 50 merchants to encourage greater use of Bangla QR payments.
The campaign was inaugurated on Thursday, 20 August, and will run from 23 August to 30 September, according to a press release.
Islami Bank Chairman Mohammad Zahir Hussain inaugurated the campaign as chief guest, while Acting Managing Director Md Altaf Hossain presided over the programme.
Additional Managing Director Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder attended as special guest, while Additional Managing Director Dr M Kamal Uddin Jasim delivered the welcome address.
Executive Vice President Md Maznuzzaman discussed Bangla QR and QR-based secure transactions.
Deputy Managing Directors Md Mahboob Alam, Mahmudur Rahman, Md Rafiqul Islam, Muhammad Sayeed Ullah and Md Maksudur Rahman attended the event alongside other senior executives.
Heads of zones and branches, as well as sub-branch in-charges, joined the programme virtually.
Mohammad Zahir Hussain said Bangla QR was an important addition to Bangladesh Bank's digital payment system, helping make transactions easier, safer and more accessible.
He said expanding Bangla QR would allow people in remote areas and small businesses to access digital transactions more easily, strengthening financial inclusion and participation in the digital economy.
"Bangla QR should be viewed not merely as a technology-based service but as a key foundation for strengthening financial inclusion, the digital economy and the economic participation of marginalised communities," he said.
Altaf said Islami Bank was working to expand technology-driven and customer-friendly banking services through its network of branches, sub-branches and agent banking outlets.
He said the bank aimed to bring more merchants, including small and medium-sized businesses and those in remote and marginalised areas, under the Bangla QR payment system.
Altaf urged the bank's employees, merchants and customers to participate actively in expanding the use of Bangla QR.
