BUFT signs MoU with DPDT to establish innovation support centre
BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), Ministry of Industries, to establish a Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) on its campus. The agreement was formalised on 2 March 2026.
The TISC will facilitate research and innovation by providing access to global patent databases, technical resources, and support services, while promoting the protection, commercialisation, and transfer of intellectual property.
Under the MoU, DPDT will act as the national focal point, coordinating the TISC network and facilitating access to international patent resources with training support. BUFT will provide infrastructure, human resources, and operational management, and will promote TISC services to academia and industry.
The MoU includes a monitoring framework and will remain in force for three years, with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement.
BUFT Chairman of the Board of Trustees Faruque Hassan, Vice Chancellor (Designate) Professor Dr Engr Ayub Nabi Khan, and Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Alamgir Hossain attended the signing, joined by senior university officials and faculty.
DPDT Director General Md Jahangir Hossain, Director (Patents and Industrial Designs) Dr Ashok Kumar Roy, and Deputy Director (Patents) Md Habibur Rahman were also present.
The collaboration represents a significant step towards advancing innovation and strengthening intellectual property practices in Bangladesh.
