The half-yearly seminar, titled "Managing ML and TF Risks Involving Online Connectivity", focused on strengthening compliance and managing emerging financial crime risks, according to a press release.
The seminar addressed money laundering and terrorist financing risks associated with online gambling and betting, illegal trading in virtual assets and other forms of online connectivity within the framework of the Gambling Prevention Act, 2026.
Discussions covered integrated service models, enhanced monitoring mechanisms and evolving regulatory reporting requirements considered essential to safeguarding interconnected financial services.
During the event, bKash reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict compliance with regulatory guidelines across its operations and protecting the interests of customers and stakeholders.
The programme was attended by Kamal Quadir, chief executive officer of bKash; Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), chief external and corporate affairs officer and chief anti-money laundering and compliance officer; Nishat Rahman, chief customer service officer; Mazedul Islam, chief legal officer; and Saber Sharif, head of anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism at bKash.
Other senior officials, regional-level anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing officials from across the country, and representatives of various departments also participated.
In line with Bangladesh Bank's directives, bKash has deployed compliance teams across different regions. The company regularly conducts awareness and training programmes for field-level agents, merchants, distributors and customers to promote secure transactions and prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.
bKash also uses its customised "AML 360 Financial Crime Investigation Solution" and Screening Intelligence System to identify non-compliant transactions and take necessary action, playing what it described as a pioneering role in compliance within the mobile financial services sector.
