Bangladesh Physical Society moves to boost scientific collaboration
The charge handover ceremony of the newly elected Executive Committee of Bangladesh Physical Society for the 2026–27 session was held at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences of the University of Dhaka on 12 June.
The event was attended by physicists, academics, researchers and members of the society.
Bangladesh Physical Society President Professor Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, former vice-chancellor and emeritus professor of the University of Dhaka, and former Bangladesh Physical Society President Dr Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, also a former chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, were present at the ceremony.
Among others present were Professor Dr AKM Akther Hossain, FBAS, Professor Dr F Nazrul Islam, Professor Dr Aminul Islam Talukdar, Mohammed Nazrul Islam Khan, Professor Dr Mohammad Jellur Rahman, Dr Abu Zafur Ziauddin Ahmed, Professor Dr Ishtiaque M Syed and Dr AKM Zakaria.
During the ceremony, the outgoing committee formally handed over responsibilities to the newly elected committee.
At the beginning of the programme, former President Dr Mohammad Shawkat Akbar and former General Secretary Professor Dr Ratan Chandra Gosh presented a brief overview of the activities carried out during the previous term and extended their best wishes to the new Executive Committee.
Speakers highlighted the important role of Bangladesh Physical Society as the country's premier professional organisation dedicated to the advancement of physical sciences, scientific research, education and professional collaboration.
During the meeting, the newly elected general secretary expressed gratitude to all members of the outgoing committee for their leadership and management of the society's activities over the past term. He also requested their continued support and involvement in the society's future activities.
In his concluding remarks, Professor Dr AFM Yusuf Haider reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the activities of the society, sought cooperation from all members and thanked everyone for their support.
The newly elected committee expressed its commitment to strengthening research activities, promoting scientific excellence and enhancing national and international cooperation in the field of physical sciences.
Participants expressed hope that all members of Bangladesh Physical Society would continue to play an effective role in advancing physics in Bangladesh.
