3 ships carrying LPG, LNG arrive at Ctg port, three more on the way
A large ship named “Kongtong” also arrived from the United States with LNG early Sunday, shipping agent Pride’s owner Nazrul Islam told TBS
Two large vessels carrying substantial quantities of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) from India and Malaysia, and another large ship transporting LNG from the United States, have arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram port.
Additionally, at least three more ships carrying LPG and LNG from various countries are expected to arrive in Bangladesh this month to ensure a steady fuel supply, Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refaet Hamim said today (12 April).
He mentioned that two ships transporting LPG from Malaysia and "Gas Carriage" from India have successfully anchored at the outer anchorage of Chattogram port on Saturday night. Currently, two LNG carrying ships are positioned at Charlie and Bravo points of the port, reports BSS.
And a large ship named "Kongtong" also arrived from the United States with LNG early Sunday, shipping agent Pride's owner Nazrul Islam told TBS.
Port sources said that the unloading process of gas through lighterage ships will commence shortly. Following that another ship named "Paul" is expected from Malaysia tomorrow.
As part of the government's strategic plan to address the energy crisis, more imports are scheduled in the coming days.
Information from the Chattogram Port Authority indicates that an LNG-carrying ship named "Maran Gas Hydra" from Australia will reach the country on 15 April, followed by another ship named "Lobito" on 18 April.
Experts say the staggered arrival of these ships is expected to ease the ongoing shortage of LPG and industrial gas in the domestic market.
Global energy markets remain volatile amid continuing conflicts and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Despite this, the Bangladesh government is stepping up efforts to import oil and gas from diversified sources to cushion the impact of the crisis.
Officials say the priority is to sustain uninterrupted power generation and industrial activity by balancing limited domestic production with increased imports. The latest large-scale gas shipments are therefore seen as vital to strengthening the country's energy security during this period of uncertainty.
